Dental bleaching can be used to correct tooth discoloration. Discolorations can be caused by staining, aging, or chemical damage to teeth. Using the latest in bleaching technology, we can offer a safe method for creating a beautiful "brilliant" smile. In cases of extreme tooth discoloration, crowns or veneers may be the only choice, but because of the low cost of bleaching treatments, bleaching is nearly always worth a solid try.
If you choose to bleach at home, we create custom bleaching "trays" for you to use with a special bleaching agent that you put into your clear "trays". With only a few hours of wear per day, our special bleaching agent bubbles stains right out of your enamel without altering tooth structure or existing dental work in any way. When your teeth reach the desired brightness, only occasional treatment is needed to maintain your new smile.
The "ZOOM" in office whitening system is ideal for anyone looking for immediate results. The convenience of "ZOOM" in comparison to days of wearing trays and gradual whitening makes it the perfect choice for busy individuals. It's safe, effective and fast, very fast. In just over an hour, your teeth will be dramatically whiter. An occasional touch-up at home will help you to keep your smile sparkling for years.

How is it done?
For the at home method, we take an impression of your teeth to create a customized "tray" or "mouth guard" to hold the bleach against the teeth. Within a few days your trays will be ready to be picked up. At this time we will show you how to apply the special bleaching material into the tray which you will wear daily for 3-4 hours for a week or two. At the end of this time, you will notice your teeth being significantly whiter. In some cases, the change is nothing short of brilliant. For confidence in appearance, bleaching technology allows us to promise improvements in yellowing, aging or stained teeth.
The "ZOOM" whitening procedure begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums. We then apply a special light activated gel to your teeth and finish with a fluoride treatment. Teeth typically become six to ten shades whiter in just over an hour. Finally, we take impressions of your teeth to create custom trays for at home touch-up, and give you instructions for keeping your smile bright.
Considerations
Over the counter bleaching agents are available for purchase at drug stores and pharmacies. Some of these products could be harmful to the gums and teeth, and are limiting to the amount of change you will see. Dr. Elder feels it is better to use products that he is confident will be safe and effective.
